Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United will be playing Europa League football ahead of the new season.
You suspect they will be one of the two favourites to win the competition outright, but Ange Postecoglou and Erik ten Hag will need to bulk up their squad for that gruelling competition.
Jamie O’Hara recently suggested that he would be pretty happy for Tottenham to sign Marcus Rashford from Manchester United.
Gareth Southgate axed Rashford from England’s Euro 2024 squad after a very poor campaign, which saw him score seven Premier League goals, as Manchester United finished eighth.
But he wasn’t the only wide player at Old Trafford who struggled, once again, Antony failed to live up to the billing – Alan Shearer delivered a brutal verdict on Antony’s performances last season.
Yes, fans will point towards his goal against Liverpool that contributed to Manchester United winning the FA Cup.
But Antony still only managed to score one Premier League goal and supply one assist under the man who brought him to the club – Erik ten Hag.
Tottenham are looking to add firepower to their squad this summer, as they aim to go to the next level.
Postecoglou did very well to guide Spurs to fifth in his debut campaign in England, especially given that he lost Harry Kane.
But whilst O’Hara would happily accept Rashford in a Spurs shirt, it was put to him whether or not he would sign Antony, given that he praised the former Ajax star for how he ended the previous campaign.
It’s fair to say that O’Hara wouldn’t want to sign Antony for Tottenham, but he still defended his performances, as he told talkSPORT (23/07/24 at 8:15 am).

“I thought Antony was quite good towards the end of last season,” said O’Hara. “I thought he played alright. If you actually watched him at the end of the season, he actually had some decent performances.
“I know that (Manchester United paid £90 million for Antony) and it hasn’t worked out. I am not saying he is a good player. But what I am saying, if you watched him at the end of the season, he actually did play well.
“No, I wouldn’t sign Antony (for Tottenham). I would sign Rashford. He has got everything. I think you can change his attitude.”

Both will be aiming for those Champions League spots after missing out last season, but you wonder how much of an effect the Europa League will have on them.
Many thought Liverpool, who have been pretty strong in European competitions under the now-departed Jurgen Klopp, would do well and win that trophy outright.

But as many saw, eventual winners Atalanta absolutely wiped the floor with them, so this is going to be very, very difficult indeed.
And as Manchester United found out many years ago during their final defeat against Villarreal, you have to push really deep to win this competition, so you just wonder if it would be an unnecessary hindrance for them.
