Arsenal are making moves once again in the summer transfer market as the new Premier League campaign edges closer.
This is Mikel Arteta’s fifth year in charge of the club and, so far, he has the FA Cup to his name which he won in his debut season.
Even Arteta himself will tell you that it has been a rocky road because there were many times when he could have been booted out.
But that patience from the Arsenal boardroom has resulted in the club being in its current position where fans believe more than ever before that they can become champions.
Arsenal missed out on the Premier League title to Manchester City on the last day of the previous campaign, but they needed just that little bit more.
One thing Arteta can’t argue about is the fact that he has been backed by the powers that be and they have brought in the players he has wanted.
That was proven when Arsenal secured the talents of Declan Rice for a club-record transfer and more are coming in.
Gabby Agbonlahor was told that Arteta has spent ‘£700 million’ during his time at the club and he was left utterly perplexed by that.
The former striker proceeded to rub it in and sarcastically state ‘he must have won a lot of trophies then’, as he told talkSPORT (24/07/24 at 4:10 pm).
Either way, Agbonlahor thinks it is ‘wild’ that Arsenal have spent that much under Arteta because now the pressure is really going to ramp up on him.
Arsenal’s transfer spend under Mikel Arteta
“Mikel Arteta, who since joining Arsenal has spent £700 million,” said Ade Oladipo.
Agbonlahor responded: “Pardon?! Say that again. He must have won a lot of trophies then. Has he?
The former striker then issues a few sarcastic comments: “I don’t believe you (after being told Arteta has only won the FA Cup). I am going to have to check. Wow! So, the last four seasons he has won nothing after spending that money is wild.”

Arsenal continue to spend…
It’s not going to stop. Arsenal will continue to flex their financial muscle and a new name could be coming in pretty soon.
Sources have told HITC that Arsenal have scheduled a medical for Riccardo Calafiori ahead of his transfer – with Calafiori’s nickname explained.

But whilst there are incomings expected, you still have to balance the books and this is where a record deal could take place.
Arteta provided an update on Emile Smith Rowe as Fulham upped their bid of £35 million on the Arsenal star.
