One team that pursued LeBron James in the offseason could become Klay Thompson’s next NBA destination.
Even at 41 years old, LeBron James became the hottest free agent this offseason after parting ways with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Several teams engaged in the James sweepstakes, with the 4x NBA champion ultimately deciding to join the Philadelphia 76ers on a two-year, $8 million deal.
Speaking of teams that missed out on James, the Miami Heat were among them, as the franchise is now reportedly involved in signing Klay Thompson.

Klay Thompson’s breakup with the Dallas Mavericks could be a golden opportunity for the Miami Heat
In 2024, Thompson joined the Dallas Mavericks after spending his entire NBA career with the Golden State Warriors in hopes of lifting the Larry O’Brien trophy again.
However, Thompson’s two-year stint with the Mavs has been full of disappointments as the organization has failed to compete for the NBA Championship.
Keeping that in mind, NBA insider Aryan on X, has claimed that Thompson wants to leave the Mavericks. Moreover, Thompson’s next most likely team is apparently the Heat.
“Dallas Mavericks guard Klay Thompson and his agent, Greg Lawrence, are expected to approach the organization in the near future to discuss a mutual parting of ways via trade or buyout, with the goal of finding a situation that is a better fit for the four-time NBA champion,” the insider revealed.
In their blockbuster trade for Giannis Antetokounmpo, the Heat gutted the roster’s depth in favor of star power. But to have any real shot at competing for an NBA Championship, the Heat need a solid bench.
Thompson is already out of his prime, and joining the Heat at this point in his career could help him achieve a Ray Allen-esque ending.
