Dallas Mavericks guard Klay Thompson teased a potential return to the Golden State Warriors in a conversation with a fan,

Thompson has averaged 12.9 points on 38.7% from three over the last two seasons with the Mavericks, missing the postseason both years after leaving the Warriors in 2024 to try and win a title in Dallas.

With the Mavericks committed to a rebuild, Klay’s future is uncertain, and a potential return to the Bay Area is something the 36-year-old himself refused to rule out.

Klay Thompson’s ‘never say never’ take on potential Warriors return

While at a signing session at Fanatics Fest, a Warriors fan told Klay that the fanbase missed their legendary second half of the ‘Splash Brothers.’ Klay’s response has Warriors fans excited.

“Never say never.”

There has been speculation that the Mavericks are exploring potential trades to send Thompson to a winning destination for next season on a $17.4 million expiring contract.

If the Mavericks can’t find a trade, Klay could have his contract bought out, opening an easy return path to the Warriors on a veteran’s minimum.

Warriors’ masterplan includes Klay Thompson and LeBron James?

It’s no surprise that most offseason business has come to a halt this summer as teams wait to see which team LeBron James joins in free agency.

The team that acquires James might make additional moves to bolster their roster, such as acquiring a shooter like Thompson.

With the Warriors among the leaders in the LeBron pursuit, there might be potential plans to sign James and hope that the Mavericks buy Thompson’s contract out so that both could join the Warriors.

Adding both of them and then potentially trading Jimmy Butler’s contract for someone like Anthony Davis would make Golden State a feared team next season.

However, if James goes somewhere else, like the Heat, the Warriors might need to sweeten Klay’s deal to bring him back as a free agent. His shooting value might attract more competitive teams than the current Golden State roster to sign him, which would be a hard sell.
