Feyenoord manager Arne Slot has confirmed that AFC Bournemouth will sign Marcos Senesi, with West Ham missing out on another transfer target in the Argentine defender.

Speaking to the press via Voetbal Primeur, the Dutch coach announced that a deal for Bournemouth to sign Senesi is now in the final stages, with the transfer set to go through next week in what could be one of the most shocking and best moves of the summer transfer window.

Linked with a £17m move to West Ham, Senesi is regarded by many as one of the Eredivisie’s best centre-backs, with the South American nicknamed by Feyenoord fans as a ‘gladiator’ for his combatitive style of play and ‘never say die’ attitude on the pitch.

With West Ham also reportedly set to miss out on LOSC Lille midfielder Amadou Onana to another Premier League rival in Everton, the past few days have been a nightmare for David Moyes, who also kicked off the new season with a 2-0 loss at home to reigning English champions Manchester City.

Indeed, West Ham could have done with a quality centre-back signing this summer to add to the arrival of Nayef Aguerd, with the Moroccan international set to miss the next few weeks due to injury, and Senesi could have been perfect for the Irons, though according to Slot, the defender will join Bournemouth in the coming days.

The Feyenoord manager said when asked about Senesi’s move to the Premier League and why the defender was missing from this weekend’s match against Vitesse: “With Marcos, the deal for him to leave is the final stages. It was not logical to play him this weekend when he already has a foot in the front door with a new club.”

Bournemouth are one of the favourites to go down this season following their return to the Premier League under Scott Parker, however, the signing of Senesi could change all of that, such is the quality of the rumoured West Ham target.

Senesi is a defender who could be an integral part of Argentina’s FIFA World Cup campaign later this year in Qatar, and for Bournemouth, the 25-year-old could be the difference between the Cherries going straight down to the Championship or embarking on another incredible spell in the Premier League.
