Newcastle United remain in the hunt for a left-footbed centre back, and Feyenoord star Marcos Senesi is the new name on the list.

Eddie Howe really wants a left-sided centre back at Newcastle. Having seen Nathan Ake thrive at Bournemouth, who can blame him?

We have now seen a host of left-footed central defenders linked with Newcastle. Sven Botman, Nico Schlotterbeck, Lloyd Kelly, Benoit Badiashile… the list goes on.

The latest name is Senesi, with De Telegraaf reporting that Newcastle want to bring Senesi to St James’ Park.

ELF Voetbal have added to that claim, suggesting that Newcastle are prepared to pay €20million (£17million) to sign Senesi.

However, that second report claims that Senesi’s representatives have been in talks with AC Milan this week.

With Simon Kjaer injured, Milan are pushing hard for a new centre back and have been fighting Newcastle for the aforementioned Botman.

Senesi, 24, joined Feyenoord from San Lorenzo back in 2019.

Senesi has been a regular for Feyenoord ever since, racking up nearly 100 appearances for the Rotterdam club.

The 6ft 1in defender is known as ‘The Gladiator’,  and appears destined to leave Feyenoord soon.

It’s not all great with Senesi though. Feyenoord legend Willem van Hanegem has suggested that Senesi needs to show better concentration to become a top defender.

Van Hanegem likes Senesi’s ability as a ball-player out from the back, but thinks he needs to tighten up off the ball.

That’s not exactly ideal given that Newcastle need a centre back who can immediately solidify their back line.

Eredivisie to the Premier League is a big step up too, meaning this move could be a risk for the Magpies.

Senesi has quality and potential, but Newcastle must now decide whether the highs are worth the apparent lows with the Feyenoord ace.
