Reports linking Feyenoord defender Marcos Senesi with Premier League giants Newcastle United has come as no surprise to the Argentine international’s agent, via Serie A News.
As Danilo Caravello points out, Senesi often finds himself in the gossip columns at this time of year. Not that the rumours ever seem to transform into anything more concrete.
The likes of Everton, Leeds United and countless Italian-based clubs have reportedly shown an interest the former San Lorenzo stopper in recent transfer windows. It was Newcastle’s turn this time around, De Telegraaf claiming that The Magpies had taken a liking to the latest shiny young thing coming out of the Eredivisie.
But after Eddie Howe landed his top left-sided centre-half target – Sven Botman finally arriving on Tyneside – could another summer be about to pass Senesi by?
Newcastle United’s Marcos Senesi links have dried up
“Marcos is a strong player, an Argentine international,” says Caravello. “The big obstacle remains the price tag, as dealing with the Dutch is never easy.
“Senesi is a player that many teams pay attention to. But, in the end, nothing ever materialises. Either the economic solution is not found, or there is not all a desire to sell him.”

Caravello does add, however, that if ‘the English clubs’ are willing to put their considerable money where their mouth is – Senesi is valued in the £17 million bracket – few outside of the Premier League would be able to compete.
“On the interest of Newcastle, certain rumours do not surprise me. Especially if we consider his value,” the agent explains.
“Surely, if the English clubs want him, they’ll get him. They have a higher economic power than the other leagues.”
Senesi, a centre-half with an eye for the spectacular – his mesmerising overhead kick against ADO Den Hag has to be seen to be believed – has been a Feyenoord player for three years now.
Now, left-sided defenders hardly grown on trees. But it’s telling that two clubs in the market for such a player opted to look elsewhere. After Newcastle brought in Botman, Tottenham went for Clement Lenglet.
What’s more, Senesi’s name never even seemed to appear on Spurs’ hitlist. Perhaps that has something to do with the Argentine’s tendency to lose concentration while making the sort of silly errors he really should have ironed out of his game by now…
