Tottenham Hotspur’s gain could be Liverpool’s loss as Club Brugge identify Momodou Sonko as a replacement for the seemingly Premier League-bound Antonio Nusa.

HITC Football understands that, while things have gone a little quiet around Antonio Nusa in the last week, talks between Tottenham Hotspur and the Belgian giants are still progressing nicely.

Ange Postecoglou’s side are happy with how the negotiations are moving forward, with the £30 million-rated Norway international keen on a move that would add quality to a Spurs frontline who’s lack of ruthlessness was laid bare by Friday’s rather insipid FA Cup defeat by Manchester City.

Club Brugge are unlikely to stand in Nusa’s way either, presuming Spurs are willing to meet their asking price. Their pursuit of a replacement is also well underway. Reports in Belgium suggest that Momodou Sonko is likely to be the man tasked with stepping into the shoes of the so-called ‘Norwegian Neymar’.

Tottenham in Antonio Nusa talks with Club Brugge

HITC have also been informed that Sonko, who plays in Sweden with BK Hacken, has admirers at Barcelona, RB Leipzig and a soon-to-be-Klopp-less Liverpool side. But like Nusa, who joined Brugge from Stabaek in Norway, fellow 18-year-old Sonko may feel that the Jupiler League is a sensible stepping stone in his development.

Nusa is far from the finished article. His goal return remains poor and, by his own admission, his defensive output needs some work. But Brugge boss Ronny Deila accepts that Tottenham – under a coach with such a superb track record in terms of youth development – could be the ideal destination for one of Europe’s most exciting raw talents.

“If (Nusa’s transfer) doesn’t happen now, it will be this summer,” explains Deila who, like Postecoglou, is a former Celtic boss.

“The most important thing is that he stays focused and wants to get better. I think he is handling (the speculation) well, because he is still young. Now, a decision has to be made and he has to do the best he can for us.

“(Moving to Tottenham) could be a good option for him.”
