Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Danny Murphy is backing the January acquisitions of Timo Werner and Genoa ‘powerhouse’ Radu Dragusin as the Premier League giants look to add to their ranks.
After Timo Werner completed his shock move to Tottenham on Tuesday night – the RB Leipzig benchwarmer offered a second stab at life in England after the difficult spell at Chelsea – January signing number two may be only hours away.
HITC Football understands that Ange Postecoglou’s Champions League-chasing side have now reached an agreement with Genoa over Radu Dragusin after stumping up an offer in the region of £26 million.
Dragusin is expected to undergo a medical in North London today, with Murphy full of praise for two players who will arrive to replenish a squad hit hard by injuries and international absences.

Tottenham complete Timo Werner deal with RB Leipzig
“I think (signing Werner) is a clever bit of business. He can play across the frontline, he’s fast, energetic, good in the press…” Murphy, who spent one season at Tottenham in 2005/06, tells talkSPORT (10 January, 11am).
“He is not an accomplished finisher. I don’t think he’s ever going to be! But losing Heung-Min Son and Harry Kane, they need numbers (in attack).”
While expectations may be low given Werner’s struggles down the road at Stamford Bridge, Murphy is keen to point out that the jet-heeled German enjoyed a prolific spell in his first stint at RB Leipzig. A side who play with a similarly high-pressing, high-octane approach to that of Postecoglou’s Spurs.
Werner earned himself that big-money move to Chelsea after hitting the target no fewer than 34 times for Leipzig in 2019/20.
But if Werner is a low-risk gamble, joining on an initial loan deal, Dragusin is a real statement signing, given the interest from the likes of AC Milan, Napoli and – in particular – Bayern Munich.
Radu Dragusin chooses Spurs over Bayern
“The other lad, the centre-back, he looks a real good footballer,” Murphy adds.
“A passer out from the back, big and quick… Everything Ange wants. I don’t know if he is going to start ahead of (Micky) Van de Ven and (Cristian) Romero but he’s a good back up.
“He looks a real powerhouse.”
Ironically enough, Dragusin’s arrival could pave the way for Bayern to turn their attention to a man currently on the books at Tottenham. One Eric Dier.
