BK Hacken starlet Momodou Sonko admits he has some family members who would love him to join Premier League giants Liverpool but he has not yet held talks with Jurgen Klopp.
Unfortunately, Momodou Sonko, this is just something you’ll have to get used to. It’s simply part and parcel of being a footballer of such talent and potential.
At the age of just 18, and despite only making his Allsvenskan debut in October 2020, the Sweden youth star is already ‘tiring’ of the speculation. Speculation that, if we’re honest, is not going to stop any time soon.
Links with not only Liverpool but also Barcelona, RB Leipzig, PSV Eindhoven, Ajax and many more are a rather natural – and somewhat inevitable – response to Sonko’s sudden explosion onto the Scandinavian scene. The talented left-winger scored 10 times and set up seven more in 2023 – a superb return for one so young – and helped BK Hacken win their first ever league title 12 months prior.
HITC Football, after talking to a source in Sweden, have been informed that Liverpool, Barcelona and Leipzig are all showing an interest, and battling for the whizzkid’s signature.

Liverpool like Swedish starlet Momodou Sonko
“Rumours don’t matter that much until bids come in,” he says, speaking to Aftonbladet. “I don’t need to delve into what is written. It’s fun to read sometimes but, when you start hearing it several times from friends, it can get a bit tiring.
“It’s a fun thing, but not something I focus on.”
There are certainly many members of the Sonko family who would relish the prospect of the Gothenberg-born wonderkid putting pen to paper at Anfield, though the player himself insists that – as things stand – Jurgen Klopp has not approached him to make his interest known.
“If (Klopp) were to call privately, I would laugh. It is quite unlikely,” Sonko smiles. “It is easier for him to reach my agents than me. I haven’t received that call anyway.
“I have some (family members) who are Liverpool fans, and some Barca fans. They want me to go to the club they support. It’s kind of funny.”
Barcelona and Ajax also linked
Sonko has just over a year left on his contract at Hacken. His current employers are likely to demand a club-record fee in excess of £7.5 million, while Sonko is not ruling out something of a stepping stone move to the Netherlands or Belgium amid interest from Ajax, PSV, Club Brugge and Anderlecht.
“If the right environment exists, with football similar to the one we play here – offensive, where you develop young players, right for me – then I see no problem with moving to Holland or Belgium either,” he adds.
“It is important to familiarise yourself with the history of the clubs, what they are known for.”
