Last night, Liverpool fans were given a chance to watch Gavi in action for Spain, with Jürgen Klopp keen to sign the 17-year-old wonderkid.
The Barcelona gem was trusted to start by Luis Enrique in the UEFA Nations League clash with Switzerland, where he embarrassed two of the most experienced players on the opposing side in a 1-0 win for Spain.
What’s the story?
Well, Gavi was the youngest player on the pitch by far, although he still managed to humiliate both Xherdan Shaqiri and Granit Xhaka with a scintillating passage of play.
The Barcelona No.30 appeared to be in a perilous position on the edge of his own box, but he evaded the danger by delicately lifting the ball over Shaqiri’s head, before dribbling to safety.
Xhaka attempted to stop Gavi escaping his own half, but the teenager impressively sidestepped the Arsenal maestro with some quick dribbling to win Spain a freekick, and take the pressure off.
You certainly wouldn’t think he was just 17 years of age watching the footage, to say the least.
Despite his age, Gavi made 47 appearances in all competitions under Xavi last season, scoring two goals while also providing six assists.
Liverpool could sign Gavi
Interestingly, Liverpool actually have a good chance of signing the Spanish prodigy.
After wrapping up deals for Pedri and Ansu Fati, Barcelona are now attempting to tie Gavi down to a new contract, but the financial crisis at the Camp Nou seems to be affecting things.
It has been said that Barcelona are only offering Gavi £1.7m-a-year, whereas Liverpool have a £7.6m-a-year contract on the table, which is worth £153,846-a-week.
The Reds are also willing to pay his €50m (£43m) release clause.
The youngster ideally wants to stay in Catalonia, but after growing annoyed at Barcelona for their handling of the situation, who knows what will happen this summer.
