According to La Porteria, Liverpool are keen to bring Barcelona gem Gavi to the Premier League, although Everton are also interested.

What’s the story?

Well, the report states that Liverpool are ready to meet the Spain international’s €50m (£43m) release clause, amid a contract standoff between the 17-year-old and Barcelona.

Gavi’s current contract expires in June 2023, and Barcelona are desperate to keep him at the Camp Nou.

However, La Porteria believe the Spanish giants are yet to meet the Everton target’s demands.

It is said that Barcelona have offered Gavi an annual salary of €2m-a-year (£1.7m), although the teenager is hoping to receive a four-year contract with a gradual wage increase.

The Spaniard wants €4m-a-year (£3.4m) in his first season of the new deal, €5m-a-year (£4.3m) in the second, €6m-a-year (£5.1m) in the third, and then a final review in the fourth year based on his performances.

While this is happening, Liverpool are said to have an offer of €9m-a-year (£7.6m) on the table, which equates to £153,846-a-week.

Despite that, Gavi and his entourage are intent on staying at Barcelona, according to La Porteria, despite being left annoyed by the situation.

In 47 appearances last season, the Barcelona No.30 scored two goals, while also providing six assists.

Despite the fact Gavi wants to stay at Barcelona, we believe Jürgen Klopp and Liverpool could still come out on top in this transfer battle.

Barcelona are still struggling financially, and according to SPORT, they can’t even afford to register their new signings Franck Kessie and Andreas Christensen, as Xavi needs players to leave first.

That is perhaps why they are lowballing Gavi with a £1.7m-a-year offer at the moment, and if they cannot afford to meet his demands, Anfield represents a very attractive option for the prodigy.

The Reds have just won two pieces of silverware, and were also Champions League finalists, so Gavi would certainly be arriving at an ambitious football club.

Be sure to pay close attention to this situation, as all eyes are on Barcelona and Gavi.
