Fabrizio Romano has taken to Twitter to provide an update on Gavi, as Liverpool and Everton look to bring him to the Premier League.

What’s the story?

Well, the Barcelona wonderkid becomes a free agent in June 2023, and the Spanish giants are struggling to agree a new contract with him.

Joan Laporta – President of Barcelona – admitted that he doesn’t like the situation involving Gavi, as Liverpool and Everton pay close attention.

Laporta also stated that the 17-year-old and his agent have had a new contract on the table for some time, but are yet to respond.

Now, Romano has provided an update which will come as a further boost to Jürgen Klopp and Frank Lampard.

The reliable Italian believes Gavi’s camp are not happy with Laporta’s comments, and are still waiting for the paperwork to be sent.

Positive meetings have been held, although it is the Spain international who is waiting for developments rather than Laporta, according to Romano.

It comes after Liverpool sent a contract offer worth £96,000-a-week to the teenager, who looks set to become a superstar.

In 47 appearances this season, Gavi – who has a £42m release clause – scored two goals, while also providing six assists.

In our view, this disagreement could eventually benefit the Reds or the Toffees.

Laporta has now annoyed Gavi’s camp, and if Romano is telling the truth, the Barcelona President wrongly threw the youngster under the bus.

His comments made it seem as if Gavi was the one causing things to stall, which ran the risk of ruining his reputation among the supporters.

That is not something most players would take lightly, and now, it remains a mystery as to whether the Spanish wonderkid will sign a new deal.

If he decides not to, then Barcelona must sell Gavi this summer, or they will lose him for nothing in 2023.

Keep an eye on this saga, as there should soon be further developments.
