Leeds United have suffered play-off heartache before, so their supporters will know how those of Huddersfield Town will be feeling right now after their Championship play-off final defeat at Wembley on Sunday.

But given that Huddersfield are their close neighbours, they probably won’t care one jot, especially given that they are interested in signing one of their star players, Lewis O’Brien.

Leeds ended nearly 20 years of pain and misery by earning promotion to the Premier League in 2020.

And Nottingham Forest, who have had to wait longer, ended their 23-year wait, and with it, provided those from Elland Road with a bit of a transfer boost.

Huddersfield don’t have the Premier League power to keep hold of someone like O’Brien, and now, if an offer comes in from Leeds, they will probably have to sell.

Under Marcelo Bielsa, the Whites weren’t heavy spenders, nor did they overload their squad with depth.

It nearly cost them relegation to the Championship because, added to their injury crisis this season, it’s something they suffered a lot from.

But, with Jesse Marsch now in the Elland Road dugout, things are now a little different for the Yorkshire side.

Leeds have already added a fresh new face to their ranks and the summer transfer window hasn’t even officially opened yet.

Brenden Aaronson has been snapped up to add some much-needed depth and flair to Leeds’ midfield.

With Huddersfield now remaining in England’s second-tier after heartache in the capital, Leeds fans will be hoping their team can pounce and add O’Brien’s versatile talents to their squad.
