Rangers-linked Colombia star Rafael Santos Borre has ended speculation over his future after agreeing to join German side Eintracht Frankfurt after his River Plate contract expired.
The Gers had been named as a possible destination for the striker and fans had been excited at the possibility of seeing him arrive in Glasgow – but unfortunately for the Light Blues he’s made the move to Germany.
The Colombian has signed a four-year deal with the Bundesliga side and his signing would have been a real coup for Rangers had they pulled it off; Santos Borre was valued at about £25 million when Crystal Palace were linked one year ago.
La Nuova Sardegna had reported that Rangers were ahead of Serie A side Cagliari in the race for his signature because Borre wanted to prove himself in European football.
However, the Germans made their move first and after finishing fifth in the Bundesliga last season, Santos Borre will play in the Europa League.
The 25-year-old is currently at Copa America alongside Rangers star Alfredo Morelos but his arrival at Ibrox would almost certainly only have happened had Morelos moved on this summer.
Eintracht Sports Director Markus Krösche told his club’s website: “Rafael Santos Borré is a very interesting player who has already gained experience in European club football. He will help us with his goal instinct and his marksmanship. We are happy to have won a player with an international stature. Both athletically and economically, it is a very good transfer for us.”
