River Plate striker Rafael Santos Borre wants to prove himself in Europe and Rangers have an advantage over Cagliari thanks to the prospect of Champions League football at Ibrox, as reported by La Nuova Sardegna.

During forgettable spells at Atletico Madrid and Villarreal, a young Santos Borre managed just 17 La Liga appearances and a grand total of two goals.
But even Diego Simeone himself admitted the Colombia international is a completely different player these days. The master tactician hailed Santos Borre’s “phenomenal” development since returning to South America with his tail between his legs, a point to prove and a ravenous desire for self-improvement.
Santos Borre has won six trophies in four years at River Plate and, if that wasn’t enough, has mustered 30 goals in his past 59 games. That’s a record better than one in two if, like me, mathematics isn’t your strong point.
Rangers have been linked after identifying Santos Borre as a possible replacement for fellow Colombian Alfredo Morelos amid claims ‘El Bufalo’ could be taking his bull-in-a-china-shop, agent-of-chaos approach to Porto.

Santos Borre will be a free agent tomorrow as well, with River Plate admitting they are powerless to prevent the striker leaving should he decide against extending his contract at the Estadio Monumental.
And, according to Nuovo Sardegna, Rangers could be considered the most tempting destination at this stage, with Steven Gerrard’s side facing their first foray into the Champions League for a decade.
Cagliari are interested too. But while Rangers were sipping champagne on the Ibrox turf, the Sardinians were breathing an almighty sigh of relief after finishing just four points above the Serie A relegation zone.
Interestingly, Santos Borre was valued at about £25 million when Crystal Palace were linked one year ago. 12 months on, he could join Rangers for free – how’s that for a bargain?
