According to Sky Germany, Rangers target Rafael Santos Borre is nearing a move to Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt.

Borre’s River Plate contract expired on Wednesday, meaning he is now free to move on if he so wishes.

The 25-year-old is a man in demand having excelled in Argentina, and Rangers have been heavily linked.

Rangers’ interest in Borre

El Deportivo reported last week that Rangers have been looking to sign Borre when his River deal expires.

La Nuova Sardegna had also reported that Rangers were ahead of Cagliari in the race because Borre wanted to prove himself in European football; Rangers having Champions League action was the big factor here.

Branded ‘phenomenal’ by Diego Simeone, Borre did have a spell at Atletico Madrid, but had to head back to South America for regular football.

Borre now looks set for Germany

It now looks like Rangers will miss out though, as Sky Germany claim Silva will pen a four-year deal Eintracht Frankfurt.

Andre Silva looks set to join RB Leipzig, so Borre may well become his replacement with the Bundesliga side.

There may still be some time for Rangers to hijack the move, but it looks like the Colombian won’t be joining Alfredo Morelos at Ibrox after all.
