One player is set to return soon while another faces more time on the sidelines
Steven Gerrard has updated fans on the fitness of two key players as Rangers close in on the league title.
Scott Arfield has been missing since going off injured in December’s 1-0 win at Ibrox, and the 32-year-old has been missed in midfield.
With seven goals in 31 appearances so far this season, Arfield has been a key factor as Rangers reached the Europa League last 32 and built up a 23-point lead in the Premiership.
Niko Katic, however, has yet to make an appearance this season.
The 24-year-old Croatian has been sidelined by a knee injury, and it appears he won’t be ready to contribute until next term.
As reported by the Scottish Sun, Gerrard has confirmed that Katic will be unavailable for the remainder of the campaign.
There is better news, however, in regards to Arfield.
As quoted by Record Sport, the Ibrox boss said: “Scott Arfield is due to start coming back into the group at the end of the week and really pleased it has gone to plan.
“The medical team have done a great job and he should hopefully be available for the European games.”
Gerrard was pleased with his team’s business in the transfer window, as the league leaders brought in Jack Simpson and Scott Wright while sending out the likes of Jordan Jones, George Edmundson and Brandon Barker on loan.
In quotes posted on the official Rangers Twitter account, he said: “It was a late night but today is a new day and I am ready to go. It was a really positive day for us and two real talents that will energise the squad.
“A really positive window for us and I’m really happy. I have to thank (sporting director) Ross Wilson and the board for the support.”
