There were more departures than arrivals at Ibrox during the January transfer window, but the league leaders emerged without having lost any key players.

Two came in on the final day, with a pre-contract agreement being signed for another, while the list of outgoing names consists of fringe players and youngsters who have yet to break through.

There was one rumoured acquisition that failed to materialise, but manager Steven Gerrard will ultimately be satisfied as none of his regular starting XI departed.

Here’s how the window panned out for Rangers.

INCOMING

Rangers secured two players on pre-contract agreements, but brought both of their moves forward in the window’s final hours.

Scott Wright arrived from Aberdeen, costing £150,000 with Ross McCrorie heading to Pittodrie as part of the deal.

The 23-year-old winger could now be involved when Rangers welcome St Johnstone to Ibrox on Wednesday night.

He could be joined in the squad by centre-back Jack Simpson, who arrived from Bournemouth for an undisclosed fee.

24-year-old Simpson has made 11 appearances in the Premier League.

He will be joined in the summer by former Cherries team-mate Nnamdi Ofoborh, with the 21-year-old midfielder spending the remainder of this season on loan at Wycombe Wanderers.

OUTGOING

Jordan Jones and George Edmundson have been out of the picture since they breached Covid regulations in November, and the pair have both sealed loan moves to English clubs.

Jones joined League One side Sunderland, while Edmundson will play under Wayne Rooney at Derby in the Championship.

Brandon Barker also completed an English loan, with the winger joining League One’s Oxford United.

Glenn Middleton remains in the Scottish Premiership, but the 21-year-old winger is now plying his trade at McDiarmid Park after joining St Johnstone on loan.

Along with McCrorie’s departure as part of the Wright deal, there were also loan moves away from Ibrox for Nicky Hogarth (Cowdenbeath), Rhys Breen (Queen of the South) and Josh McPake (Harrogate), as well as a permanent move to Linfield for Cammy Palmer.

MISSES

There weren’t many names in the public domain that Rangers missed out on in this window, but there had been speculation linking the Ibrox side with John Lundstram.

The 26-year-old midfielder, however, remained at Sheffield United.

STILL AT CLUB

With the title in their sights, Gerrard will have been pleased to hold on to Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos.

The former has been mentioned in connection with Leeds, while Everton and Lille are among the clubs to have been linked with the latter.
