HITC Sport’s poll asking whose Chelsea’s closest rival will be in the Premier League title race saw Arsenal and Liverpool rank low down.

HITC Sport’s poll asking who Chelsea’s closest rival in the Premier League title race will be saw Arsenal and Liverpool pull in a surprisingly low portion of the votes. But how have two of the teams who have led the table since November pulled in just 10% of the vote between them?

Are Tottenham slowly becoming North London’s number one team?

It was during November when Jurgen Klopp’s men moved to the summit for the first time after dispatching Watford 6-1 at Anfield, and they would stay there following a goalless draw with Southampton following the international break.

Arsenal reached top spot the next month following their 3-1 victory over Stoke. Yet they have both suffered a series of poor results and now find themselves with next to no chance of putting the most pressure on Chelsea, according to HITC Sport readers anyway.

Liverpool have not registered a league victory in 2017, and have lost to the likes of Hull and Swansea recently, both of whom are battling relegation.

That form has seen them fall out of the top four and has left them just six points above their Merseyside rivals Everton, who sit seventh. Certainly, a continuation of their current form would open the door for the Toffees to potentially take a spot in the top six.

While Arsenal do still occupy a spot in the top four, they have lost their last two, including a fairly heavy defeat to Chelsea in their most recent game which emphatically highlighted all of the reasons why the Gunners are destined to fall short once again.

It is perhaps surprising that Arsene Wenger’s men have not been backed to put the most pressure on Chelsea however, as Gunners fans will know all too well what tends to happen once their title dreams have been quashed.

Once the title is virtually out of reach, Arsenal often put together a brilliant run of form that cruelly gives supporters hope going into the next campaign.
