- EXCLUSIVE from Graeme Bailey
HITC understands that Newcastle United have spoken to Crystal Palace about England star Marc Guehi this summer.
Marc Guehi had an outstanding tournament at Euro 2024 with the Englishman deputising for Harry Maguire, with the Manchester United defender missing the tournament through a calf injury.
Guehi’s impressive performances during the tournament in Germany have naturally led to some transfer attention from across the Premier League.
HITC has reported that Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea had previously been keen on Guehi but sources have now told HITC that Newcastle United have jumped ahead of the queue and have asked the Eagles about Guehi.

Crystal Palace’s stance on Marc Guehi sale explained
Palace have been expecting approaches for their central defender this summer following an outstanding Euro 2024 with multiple top Premier League sides keen, but, as mentioned, it is Newcastle who have now entered the fray.
Having already lost Michael Olise to Bayern Munich this summer, Palace are understood to have been firm in the stance on Guehi and team-mate Eberechi Eze in that they don’t want another big sale.
HITC has reported that Eze has become unsettled at Palace after Olise departed from the club, with Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur keen on the midfielder.
As for Guehi, Palace sources have previously insisted that Guehi does not have a release clause and they want his market value, which is understood to be in excess of £60 million, but HITC understands that Newcastle feel they could lure him away for less than £60million.
Newcastle’s centre-back plans
Eddie Howe’s side have already made one centre-back addition this summer with Newcastle signing Lloyd Kelly on a free transfer from Bournemouth.
Newcastle also tried to sign Tosin Adarabioyo but the Magpies withdrew their offer for Adarabioyo, who ended up moving to Chelsea.
Newcastle are understood to want a right-sided defender as well as a right-sided forward to add to their team this summer.
AC Milan duo Malick Thiaw and Fikayo Tomori have been looked at by Newcastle, along with Sporting Lisbon’s Ousmane Diomande but now Newcastle have approached former Chelsea man Guehi about a move to St James’ Park.
