So, Cody Gakpo is heading to Liverpool during the January transfer window to add to Jurgen Klopp’s already-attack-crazy forward line.
After Liverpool beat Aston Villa 3-1 on Boxing Day in the Premier League, PSV Eindhoven confirmed that an agreement has been reached with the English club for Gakpo, as they posted on Twitter.
Well, it seems as though the 23-year-old has been watching his new team from afar because, on Virgil van Dijk’s Instagram, he seemed impressed by his fellow countryman’s performance at Villa.

The Netherlands international posted clapping and fire emojis on van Dijk’s Instagram post after the Merseyside club won in the Midlands, thanks to a goal from their commanding centre-back in the first half.
And Gakpo wasn’t wrong. Without their leader at the back, Liverpool’s return to Premier League football, after the World Cup break, could have become pretty messy because Unai Emery’s men should have scored more than just the single goal.
Nonetheless, when van Dijk posted on his IG ‘back at it’ after his side’s Boxing Day win, Gakpo’s message in the comments section was then met with supporters telling him ‘Welcome to Liverpool’ or ‘Agent van Dijk’.
WHO NEXT FOR LIVERPOOL?
With FSG looking to sell up, it could have been understandable for fans to question just how much the wantaway-owners would pump into the club again.
Well, given that the winter transfer window isn’t officially opened yet, then this is a pretty good start.
Yes, the problem area is in the middle of the park, but with Darwin Nunez blowing so hot and cold during games, Klopp simply can’t rely on him.
Added to that, Luis Diaz is still out for the long-term, Diogo Jota also won’t be returning soon and Roberto Firmino is also out of action.
Therefore, Gakpo is needed a lot more right now than fans might think.
