Liverpool and Manchester United both find themselves clouded in uncertainty, as the Glazer family join Fenway Sports Group (FSG) in putting their respective clubs up for sale.
Shortly after the Red Devils announced that Cristiano Ronaldo would be leaving Old Trafford, The Athletic revealed that the Glazer family are open to a full sale, just weeks after The Athletic also claimed FSG are looking to sell.
Now, Ben Jacobs of CBS Sports has offered some insight into the situation.
Liverpool & Manchester United search for new owners
Well, the respected journalist believes the Glazer family have enlisted the help of Raine Group to speed up a sale, the same team who oversaw Todd Boehly’s purchase of Chelsea.
Jacobs adds that the Glazers, like FSG, saw an opportunity to sell their respective clubs for billions after the American took the reins at Chelsea, as they became aware of the vast interest in acquiring a top Premier League side.
You can see a string of tweets from the CBS Sports journalist below, offering further details on the situation.
By the looks of it, the collapse of the Super League has had a huge knock on effect in the Premier League.
Furthermore, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which led to Roman Abramovich being forced to sell Chelsea for £4.25bn, has seemingly tempted those in charge of Liverpool and Manchester United to sell for billions as well.
Liverpool will be annoyed with Manchester United
In our view, FSG will be frustrated with the timing of the Glazer family’s decision.
Manchester United are arguably the biggest club on the planet, let alone just in England, and it is possible that those who held an interest in buying Liverpool will now ditch those plans in favour of purchasing the Red Devils.

It certainly doesn’t make the situation any easier for FSG, with The Athletic already informing supporters told that the ownership uncertainty could drag on into 2024, even before Manchester United were put up for sale.
Be sure to keep an eye on the situations at both clubs, as we expect further developments to come.
