Speaking on the Here We Go Podcast, Fabrizio Romano has been discussing Arsenal and their hunt for a new striker.

The Gunners have been linked with a plethora of new centre-forwards this summer including Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Richarlison and Victor Osimhen.

One player they’re reportedly big fans of is Gianluca Scamacca, according to Graeme Bailey, the Gunners have even asked Roberto Mancini for his advice about the Italian as they weigh up a move.

Scamacca is seemingly there for the taking, but the Gunners are yet to formalise their interest in the Italian, and according to Romano, that’s due to the fact they’re prioritising a move for Gabriel Jesus.

What’s been said?

Romano shared what he knows about Arsenal’s hunt for a new striker.

“As of today, Arsenal are working on it, I can’t say anymore, but Arsenal are working on it,” Romano said about Jesus.

“We know that he (Jesus) is the priority, he is the main target. Arsenal are not negotiating with other strikers, for example Gianluca Scamacca, he is a striker that they have always been following, he’s really appreciated by Arsenal, but they’re not jumping into it yet because they are working on Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel is the priority.”

The right choice

It looks as though Arsenal have made Jesus their number one striker target, and, in our view, they’re making the right choice.

In terms of age profile, style of play and ability, Jesus is a great fit for this young Arsenal team, and while the likes of Scamacca and Osimhen would also be well-suited, the fact that Jesus is proven in the Premier League gives him a slight edge.

Whether or not Arsenal get Jesus remains to be seen, but even if they don’t, Scamacca wouldn’t be a bad back-up option.

One thing looks almost certain, Arsenal will be signing a new, quality number nine this summer.
