- EXCLUSIVE from Graeme Bailey
HITC understands that Arsenal, as well as a host of Premier League clubs, have been made aware about the possible signing of a former Barcelona ace this summer.
Arsenal struck an agreement to sign Bologna defender Riccardo Calafiori earlier this week and it appears the Gunners are not done there.
Mikel Merino remains of Interest to Arsenal but the Gunners will have to sort out the future of Emile Smith Rowe, Reiss Nelson and Eddie Nketiah before going for the Spanish midfielder.
As for Calafiori, his ability to play at left-back is sure to appeal to Arteta with Polish defender Jakub Kiwior told he is now free to leave Arsenal amid strong interest emanating from Inter Milan.

Arsenal offered chance to sign Sergi Roberto
Another defensive addition could well be needed for the Gunners to provide competition at right-back for Englishman Ben White.
To that end, HITC understands that Arsenal are among a host of Premier League sides made aware of the availability of Sergi Roberto.
As well as the Gunners, it is our understanding that Aston Villa, Brentford, Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United are amongst those made aware of the player’s situation.
Dutch side Ajax and PSV Eindhoven are also understood to have shown interest in the Spanish right-back this summer.
Roberto departed the club upon the expiry of his contract at Barcelona and the Spaniard can also play in midfield, which could be of use to one of these Premier League clubs interested.
Roberto’s versatility was always a key factor for Barcelona with former manager Luis Enrique once hailing the Spaniard as ‘marvellous’ when he spoke to BeIN Sport.
Turkish clubs have also been offered the chance to sign the Spaniard, as have American side Inter Miami.
Hansi Flick provides update on Roberto and Nico Williams chase
New Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has provided an update over the future of the 32-year-old Spaniard this summer.
“He’s not a Barcelona player, as things stand,” Flick said as per Fabrizio Romano on X and this would seemingly end any hope of the Spaniard remaining at the Nou Camp.
Flick was also asked about the potential signing of Athletic Bilbao forward Nico Williams with HITC reporting that Barcelona have stepped up talks to sign the Spanish winger, who shone at Euro 2024.
“He is not our player, Nico Williams, is under contract with another club and I cannot say anything else,” Flick said.
