Khayon Edwards is staying at Arsenal after the striker finally signed a new contract to stay with the club despite links elsewhere.

Arsenal went through a similar battle to keep Folarin Balogun last year and did end up securing the striker on a new deal.

Edwards has been a hot topic in recent months and there were real fears that he could be leaving Arsenal.

The Daily Mail reported in December that Leeds United and Newcastle United were both keen on signing Edwards.

Chelsea even made an approach whilst Brighton and Hove Albion have also been interested.

Arsenal never gave up hope though and have finally secured a first professional contract for Edwards.

Edwards has taken to Instagram to announce his contract, sharing his delight and excitement having committed his future to Arsenal.

Edwards, 18, has been a sensation this season, baggie 16 goals and five assists in 16 Under-18 Premier League games.

There is real excitement over Edwards and there is hope that he can become a first-team player – just like other Hale End talents like Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe.

Balogun hasn’t got close to a regular first-team role yet though so Edwards likely faces a lengthy spell in the Arsenal youth ranks.

That hasn’t dampened the teenager’s spirits though as he received a number of messages from Arsenal players.

The likes of Mika Biereth, Omari Hutchinson and Charlie Patino all sent messages of support to Edwards after putting pen-to-paper on his deal.

There was also a message from Jahkeele Marshall-Rutty – who was on trial with Arsenal earlier this season.

The Toronto FC wonderkid spent time with Arsenal and Liverpool but has now called Edwards a ‘big balla’, and Arsenal may well hope to unleash them together in the near future.
