In the last 24 hours, it has been said that Newcastle submitted a £17.5m bid for Watford striker Joao Pedro.
The Hornets certainly won’t want to lose the Brazilian as they aim for an immediate return to the Premier League, especially as he has started the Championship campaign in fine form with one goal in three appearances.
They have rejected the offer.
However, Watford have just made an announcement which should encourage Newcastle fans.
What’s the story?
Well, Watford have now confirmed the signing of Keinan Davis on loan from Aston Villa, a man who helped Nottingham Forest win promotion last term with a stunning string of displays during a short-term loan.
It remains to be seen if the 24-year-old’s arrival at Vicarage Road has any influence on Pedro’s future, but you could argue that Rob Edwards is now more open to letting one of his forwards go after bringing in a new striker.
Davis scored five goals in 15 Championship appearances for Nottingham Forest last season.
Interestingly, Nottingham Forest actually held talks over a deal to re-sign the striker, but a move failed to materialise.
Keinan Davis could have no impact on Newcastle & Joao Pedro
It should be noted that Pedro isn’t the only Watford attacker who is attracting Premier League interest.
According to Foot Mercato, Crystal Palace and Leeds are keen to sign Ismaila Sarr from the Hornets, so Davis could have been signed in preparation for the Senegal international’s exit, not Pedro.

The Watford No.23 has also attracted interest from West Ham following a strong start to the season, which involved Sarr scoring a goal from inside his own half in the recent 1-1 draw with West Brom.
Watford have already lost Emmanuel Dennis to Nottingham Forest, and we’ll be very surprised if Edwards manages to keep hold of both Pedro and Sarr before the transfer deadline on August 31st.
