Arsenal fans have reacted with bewilderment at the rumours that Renato Sanches is the alternative to James Maddison.
The Daily Mail claim that if Arsenal can’t lure Leicester City’s creative talent to North London then they will push for Lille’s driving midfielder instead.
Maddison is a player who likes to pick the pockets, play the ball quickly in the final third and loves the one-touch link-up play.
Whereas Sanches prefers driving with the ball from deep, using his aggressive style to get past defenders and prefers to be behind the play rather than right in the mixer like Maddison.
Therefore, it’s no surprise that Arsenal fans cannot understand why they are looking to bring in Sanches if Maddison isn’t snapped up.
The other midfielders Arsenal have been heavily linked with this summer are Yves Bissouma and Manuel Locatelli.
They are in the mould of Sanches, albeit the above duo have a better defensive mind than the Portugal international.
Whilst Arsenal have brought in Albert Lokonga and Nuno Tavares this summer, the fans are looking for much bigger names.
One of them might arrive in the form of Brighton’s ball-playing centre-back, Ben White, the Gunners have agreed on a £50 million fee for the player.
Nonetheless, given that Maddison is playing in Europe, and Arsenal aren’t, they will do well to lure him towards their direction.
