Arsenal are set to sign Ben White from Brighton and Hove Albion, but they had something of a false alarm today over a potential early arrival.
The Gunners have been pursuing White for much of the summer, and appear to be closing in on their man.
Sky Sports claim that, after a £47million bid was rejected, Arsenal have now had a £50million offer accepted and White will become a Gunner later this month.
That report noted that White is still on holiday after Euro 2020, so an Arsenal medical won’t happen until July 26th at the earliest.
Fans got excited today though.
Photos and videos were posted to White’s Instagram showing him boarding a plane, leaving Arsenal fans excited, believing he was cutting his holiday short to join them.
Fans praised an elite mentality, claiming they love White already and believe Arsenal are ‘huge’ to be convincing White to come back early and sign.
Nothing gets past Arsenal fans on Twitter though.
White’s flight has been tracked from Rome to Ibiza rather than to London, and another Instagram video has shown him with friends on the second leg of his holiday.
Not today, Arsenal. White will be an Arsenal player soon, but not today.
We can hardly blame Arsenal fans for getting giddy about the prospect of White joining earlier than planned, but patience is a virtue.
This time next week, White should be on board with Arsenal. Hopefully the defender is worth the wait.
