While transfer deadline day may have passed in the Premier League, there are still many deals being touted around elsewhere across the world.

Turkey is one of the major nations still able to conduct business as high-profile deals such as Victor Osimhen to Galatasaray continue to be confirmed.

Saudi Arabia has been another of those looking to make some big moves before the end of their window, which closed late on Monday, September 2.

One blockbuster deal touted was Al-Ittihad’s move for Arsenal star Leandro Trossard, though that never came to fruition.

While that transfer fell through, one move for a Wolves ace was confirmed early the day after the transfer window in the Saudi Pro League closed.

Wolves confirm Daniel Podence transfer exit

Wolves have confirmed that forward Daniel Podence has left the club to join Saudi Pro League club Al-Shabab on a permanent deal.

The Portuguese star joined from Olympiacos back in January 2020 under former manager Nuno Espirito Santo.

The 28-year-old made 108 appearances for Wolves, scoring 16 goals and bagging nine assists over that period.

His first season was interrupted heavily by injury troubles, with groin surgery required late in the 2020/21 campaign that followed into the next.

Podence then spent the 2023/24 campaign back at Olympiacos, where he bagged 15 goals and 13 assists across all competitions.

While in Greece, he helped the side win the Europa Conference League before he made the switch to Al-Shabab.

Discussing the move, Wolves sporting director Matt Hobbs told the official website: “I’ve got nothing but positive words to say about Danny.

“All my dealings with him have been easy, even when he was in a difficult place, and when people are like that, you want to look after them when it comes to moves.

“This is a life-changing opportunity for Danny and his family and one he leaves for with our best wishes.

“He’s a great guy and will always receive a warm welcome back to Molineux. Now, we wish him the best of luck at Al-Shabab.”

Daniel Podence was once compared to Eden Hazard

While his time at Wolves won’t have ended the way he would’ve liked, it wasn’t all that bad for Podence at Molineux.

Back in February 2022, the winger scored his first goal of the Premier League season with an outrageous strike from outside the box against Leicester City.

Speaking on TalkSPORT about the effort, former Tottenham striker Darren Bent compared the Portuguese star to Eden Hazard.

“What a great strike from Podence,” Bent said. “Podence reminds me of Hazard.”

It’s not the only moment where Podence has shown shades of the ex-Chelsea star, with plenty of moments of magic such as his nutmeg on Kevin de Bruyne.

Many will be wondering what could’ve been for the winger at Wolves, had it not been for injuries.
