The Saudi Pro League transfer window closes on Monday evening and they had been hoping to seal a last-minute big raid on Arsenal.

The Pro League may not have been as busy as some presumed in recent months, but they have still made some big name signings from England this summer.

Ivan Toney swapped Brentford for Al-Ahli on the Premier League’s deadline day, before which they had landed the likes of Moussa Diaby and Joao Cancelo.

Saudis attempt loan swoop for Leandro Trossard

HITC sources can confirm that the Saudis wanted to follow up with the signing of Arsenal forward Leandro Trossard.

Al-Ittihad are the Pro League side who have pursued Trossard and saw him as the ideal option to replace former Celtic star Jota – who returned to Europe last week with a swtich to Rennes.

HITC is told that Al-Ittihad head coach Laurent Blanc made it known to his bosses that he felt Trossard would be ideal signing and talks took place, and it is believed the Belgian was willing to consider the move.

Trossard is aware that Raheem Sterling’s arrival on deadline day, could very well impact on him and his playing time going forward.

Al-Ittihad looked to take advantage and they proposed a loan with an initial fee of around £5million which also included an obligation of a further £20million, payable next summer.

Mikel Areta decides against Trossard sale

Arsenal considered the approach but after talks between the club’s hierarchy – including Mikel Arteta, it was decided to rule out a move for Trossard.

HITC understands that Arteta made it clear that he wanted Trossard to stay, despite the signing of Sterling as he sees him an important squad member.

Trossard has featured in all three of Arsenal’s game this season including scoring the winner at Aston Villa. He started the last game against his former club Brighton, but was taken off on the hour mark.
