Cody Gakpo was strongly linked with a move to Leeds United in the summer transfer window, and there is speculation that the Elland Road outfit remain keen on signing the PSV winger in January.

And based on Gakpo’s performance for PSV this past weekend, it is easy to understand why.

Leeds United linked with Cody Gakpo

The Athletic reported on September 1 that Leeds Director of Football Victor Orta travelled to the Netherlands to sort out a deal for the winger.

However, Orta could not get the deal done and returned to England disappointed.

Leeds, though, are still interested in the 23-year-old Netherlands international winger.

On September 4, well-known and well-respected journalist Fabrizio Romano reported on Twitter that the West Yorkshire club are planning a bid for the youngster in the January transfer window.

Excellent performance

And his performance for PSV against RKC Waalwijk at home in the Eredivisie this past weekend shows why.

According to WhoScored, Gakpo created as many as nine chances in the match.

PSV won 1-0.

It was Gakpo who scored the only goal of the match in the sixth minute of injury time from the penalty spot.

The Dutch winger has scored seven goals and provided three assists in six Eredivisie matches for PSV so far this season.
