Arsenal are ‘still pushing‘ to sign Manchester United target Lisandro Martinez this summer.
At least, that’s what Fabrizio Romano revealed on Twitter earlier on Saturday, that the Gunners remain keen on signing the Ajax powerhouse despite Manchester United looking like strong candidates.
Arsenal have been linked with the Argentina international for a number of weeks now.
And although it’s unclear where he’s heading, with the Red Devils having an offer knocked back today, he looks destined for the Premier League.
That’s what Romano reported on social media this afternoon, claiming that Martinez will ask to leave the Dutch outfit in order to secure a transfer to English football.
This is bound to be a fascinating race.
If Romano is right – and he often is – the player has his heart set on a transfer to the Premier League this summer.
And with a £45 million price tag, it’ll come down to who wants him more.
Manchester United’s reported recent offer is said to be around £37 million and if Arsenal want him – really want him – then it’s massively important that they gazump their English rivals.
Mikel Arteta has a good defence – particularly central defenders – but Ben White and Gabriel Magalhaes aren’t flawless.
They are capable of errors, as they demonstrated toward the end of last season, and it’s vital that the Spaniard and Edu add competition for places this summer.
