Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal are determined to sign Lisandro Martinez from Ajax ahead of Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United in the summer transfer window, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The well-known and well-respected journalist has reported on Twitter that Arsenal and Manchester United both are keen on signing Martinez from Ajax this summer.
Romano has claimed that Manchester United are preparing a bid for the Argentina international central defender, but Arsenal have no intention of giving up on signing the 24-year-old and “are still pushing”.
Earlier this week, The Sun reported that Arsenal are willing to pay £35 million for Martinez, adding that Ajax are looking for £45 million in transfer fees for him.

There has been speculation in the Dutch media that the Gunners have made two bids for Martinez.
Arsenal or Manchester United for Lisandro Martinez?
In our view, Manchester United have the advantage over Arsenal for the signing of Ajax central defender Lisandro Martinez.
Martinez worked with new Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag at Ajax, and the chance for a reunion could be tempting for the Argentine.
Yes, United have not been very successful in recent years, but they are still arguably the biggest club in England and one of the biggest in the world.
