Why doesn’t Paul Mullin play for Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac’s Wrexham anymore?

Paul Mullin quickly became a global sensation following his starring role in Wrexham AFC’s attack.

Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac became co-owners of Welsh soccer team Wrexham in February 2021.

During their first summer transfer window at the club, they made Paul Mullin their marquee signing, and he did not disappoint.

Mullin was the Red Dragons’ standout talent in the National League and League Two, quickly endearing himself to fans around the globe who began following the team via the Welcome to Wrexham documentary.

However, five years on from his arrival, the English striker has now left the Racecourse Ground and is currently without a club.

Paul Mullin had his Wrexham contract terminated

Wrexham won promotion to League One for the 2024/25 season, and this is where the problems began.

Mullin was injured at the start of the campaign and, once he returned, struggled to rediscover his best form.

Following an appearance against Stevenage on January 28, 2025, manager Phil Parkinson took the decision to axe the centre-forward from his matchday squad, and he did not play another league game in 2024/25.

Wrexham, of course, ended up winning promotion to the Championship that season, which did not bode well for Mullin’s chances of getting back in the side.

Instead, he was sent out on loan ahead of last season, first linking up with Wigan Athletic.

He got off to a decent start at Wigan, but again lost his place for the Latics before being recalled to Wrexham in the 2026 January transfer window.

Mullin then spent the second half of the previous campaign on loan at Bradford City, where he played nine games and did not score.

He returned to the Racecourse this summer, but with it clear he was not going to get back into Parkinson’s plans, the decision was taken to terminate the forward’s contract, which was due to run until 2027.

After the mutual agreement to part ways, Mullin remains a free agent and is yet to find a new team ahead of 2026/27.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for the 31-year-old, but fans from around the globe are no doubt keen to see what the Welcome to Wrexham favourite will do next.
