The 23rd World Cup in history has come to an end following Sunday’s final in New Jersey.
This has been a World Cup like no other. Even putting the controversy surrounding visas, prices and red cards, the tournament has never reached such scale.

For the first time in history, the competition was held across three countries, with 48 teams competing to make it the largest tournament since its initial inception 96 years ago.
Legends were made along the way, as well as a significant amount of heartache.
After 104 matches, we finally have a winner and US president Donald Trump – attending his first game of the tournament – was there to see it.
Spain win World Cup 2026 after beating Argentina
The final saw European champions Spain take on South American champions Argentina, which is the first time that has ever happened in World Cup history.
Defending champions Argentina put in a largely dreadful performance. Enzo Fernandez was sent off towards the end of a miserable regulation 90 minutes before Ferran Torres scored the winner in extra-time.
It is Spain’s second-ever World Cup title following their win at South Africa 2010.
Where is the 2030 World Cup and when does it start?
Though this year’s World Cup was certainly unique in its nature, the next tournament in 2030 is even bigger.
To celebrate its 100th anniversary, it will be played across three continents.
One game each will be played in Paraguay, Uruguay (who hosted the tournament in 1930) and Argentina.
The bulk of the competition will take place in Spain, Portugal and Morocco – marking the first time the World Cup has ever been played in North Africa.
The tournament begins on June 8, 2030 and runs until July 21.
FIFA president Gianni Infantino has suggested that the governing body could consider expanding the World Cup to 64 teams, although it’s not clear if that would come into play for the next edition of it.
