Trump worked closely with the FIFA president to bring the tournament to North America for the first time since 1994.
“Well, I think my first meeting with Gianni. He has done a fantastic job,” Trump told FOX Sports’ Jenny Taft.
“He had this idea, and I said, ‘That’s crazy, we’re not a soccer country.’ It turns out we are a soccer country.
“I don’t think there’s been anything like what has happened with the whole World Cup. It’s been beautiful; it’s a beautiful thing to watch. I really give Gianni the credit.”
Trump’s politics will always divide opinion, but there is no doubt that the 2026 World Cup has been successful.
