England midfielder Declan Rice only lasted the first half of their World Cup quarter-final against Norway.

Rice has been an ever-present for both England and Arsenal this season. The midfielder played in almost every minute of Arsenal’s Premier League campaign, as well as the large majority of their run to the Champions League final.

HALF TIME

Jude Bellingham changes the mood just before half time, but are you concerned with how sluggish England looked after the hydration break? 🤷‍♂️

Has the tactic become give it to Kane or Bellingham and hope for the best?

There is little doubt that the 27-year-old is one of the leading midfielders in Europe. This World Cup, however, has been something of a struggle for him to scale his previous heights.

Sadly for Rice, he was taken off after only the first half in Miami.

Rice has been dealing with illness and a hamstring injury

Heading into the Norway game, Rice was a relative doubt to make it.

Indeed, not only has the former West Ham captain been dealing with a hamstring issue throughout the tournament. Not enough to rule him out of any games thus far, but enough to be a talking point throughout England’s campaign.

Rice has also been suffering with illness in recent days. He missed some training sessions in the build-up to the Norway game and his involvement was only relatively brief.

It remains to be seen how severe any issue is for Rice, if indeed there is one at all. Should England reach the latter stages of the tournament, the games come in quick fashion.

There is a World Cup semi-final to be played on Wednesday July 15 in Atlanta before the final comes in New Jersey on Sunday July 19.

Rice has been a hugely influential player for both club and country over the last few years and while he perhaps hasn’t been at his very best during this tournament, any team in the world would miss someone of his quality.
