According to Sky Sports, Sadio Mane is on the verge of leaving Liverpool for Bayern Munich, with a £42.5m deal edging closer.

What’s the story?

Well, the German giants have already submitted a few bids for the 30-year-old, although none have met Liverpool’s £42.5m valuation of the Senegal international.

Now, however, Bayern Munich are ready to meet the asking price.

A Sky Sports reporter said: “Now, this is big breaking news. Sadio Mane is on the verge of sealing a move to Bayern Munich. The club, we’re told, are preparing an improved offer in line with Liverpool’s valuation, which is £42.5m.”

Mane has already agreed personal terms with the Bundesliga champions, so it is just a case of Bayern Munich satisfying Liverpool’s demands, which they seem ready to do.

Jürgen Klopp has already found a replacement for the Liverpool No.10 following the arrival of Darwin Nunez, who recently signed from Benfica in a deal worth £64m, potentially rising to a club-record £85m with add-ons.

Interestingly, the Reds told Bayern Munich that they would happily keep Mane if their £42.5m valuation wasn’t met.

If that was just a mere negotiating tactic, then it seems to have done the trick.

Mane’s impending exit comes after he scored 23 goals in 51 appearances last season, as Liverpool won the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup.

Liverpool selling Sadio Mane at the right time

In our view, it will be sad to see Mane depart, but football is a ruthless game at times.

As popular as the 30-year-old is at Anfield, Liverpool are actually making a profit on the £34m they spent to sign him from Southampton in 2016, while they have also replaced him with someone eight years younger in Nunez.

From a business aspect, it is shrewd work.

Klopp now has a frontline of Nunez, Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah, which is a simply mouthwatering trio, to say the least, while he can also call upon Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino.

Of course, it would’ve been nice for Mane to stay, but with his contract expiring next year, and supposed demands of £400,000-a-week, Liverpool are absolutely doing the right thing.
