Robbie Fowler has claimed that Liverpool are ‘uneasy’ about Manchester United joining the race to sign Darwin Nunez.
The Benfica hitman looks to be closing in on a big-money transfer to Liverpool.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the Reds have already agreed personal terms with the Manchester United-linked attacker.
Goal.com reported on Saturday that the Old Trafford outfit are ready to throw in the towel and concede defeat in trying to pip their English rivals to the Uruguay international.
The Portuguese club want £85 million for the 22-year-old.

And Fowler has told The Mirror that Liverpool would’ve hated to see the Red Devils make their interest known, claiming that it drove up the price and the salary.
He said: “With the record signing of Darwin Nunez looking all but done for Liverpool, what fascinates me is the presence of Manchester United amid the negotiations.
I can guarantee the Anfield people would have been uneasy with that, as it has the potential to push up not only the price, but the wages too. No agent worth his salt wouldn’t use it to get a bigger contract, let’s be clear.”
Is Fowler right?
Well, in theory it certainly makes sense that the more interested parties, the higher the price.
But to be honest, Nunez starred in the Champions League this past season – and tore Liverpool to shreds at times at Anfield, in particular.
And therefore, it’s very probable that with or without the Red Devils lodging their interest, FSG would’ve had to pay a massive fee for the player.
This is a 22-year-old who has dazzled away to Liverpool in the quarter-final of the Champions League.
In other words, he’s probably going to be a star and irrespective of Manchester United being included, paying £85 million might’ve been inevitable.
