Gary Neville stated that Harry Kane’s option to join Manchester City is ‘gone’, as Tottenham Hotspur secured Champions League football on Sunday.

The TV pundit was on commentary duty for Manchester City’s clash against Aston Villa yesterday, as the goals were coming up on the screen from Spurs’ clash at already-relegated Norwich City.

Antonio Conte’s side only needed a point at Carrow Road and they would have pipped Arsenal to fourth spot.

Whilst there was drama in the Premier League title race and the relegation battle, there was no such thing in the race for fourth.

And when Kane scored his goal against Norwich, this is what Martin Tyler and Neville had to say on commentary from the Etihad, on Sky Sports Main Event.

“You’ll be doing another interview with Harry Kane in pre-season with Harry Kane for his plans for the next season,” said Sky’s lead commentator, Tyler.

“Well, the option to do it here (at Manchester City) is gone,” said Neville.

Tyler then added: “Yes, Erling Haaland is going to be a very exciting acquisition for the Premier League and Manchester City.”

This time last season, Spurs had just about secured European football and they were managerless after sacking Jose Mourinho.

During that period, Kane proceeded to do an interview with Neville, where he spoke about having a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ and hinting at possibly leaving.

In the end, he stayed put, and things actually became worse under Nuno Espirito Santo, whose reign seems a long, long away now.

But that’s when Daniel Levy made one of his best calls yet and that’s adding Conte to the club’s ranks.

The Italian is a pretty big reason why Spurs are going to be playing Champions League football next season and now they’ll be dreaming of more.
