MrBeast has spoken out after the USMNT lost to Belgium in the World Cup Round of 16 this week.

Despite being allowed to use Folarin Balogun, Mauricio Pochettino’s side were dominated by European side Belgium in their latest match.

The game finished 4-1, and in response to his country losing the tie, MrBeast has backtracked on his hopes of renaming ‘football’ ‘soccer’.

MrBeast willing to call soccer ‘football’ now USA are out of World Cup

The USA had a brilliant start to the tournament, topping their group after just two matches.

In turn, the excitement around the national team was growing and so were the expectations.

MrBeast was among those to get involved in the hype, suggesting the sport must be renamed to ‘soccer’ should the US win the competition.

In a tweet from June 21, 2026, he stated: “If USA wins the World Cup WE CALLING IT SOCCER FOREVER! FULL STOP PERIOD.”

Now, following on from the 4-1 hammering against Belgium, the YouTuber has quoted that message, saying it can be called ‘football’.

He also mentioned how proud he was of the USMNT. Mr Beast tweeted: “I relent, we can call it football. Proud of our team, GG.”

Now that the USA are no longer competing at the tournament, it will be interesting to see if local fans still show interest in the World Cup.

‘Soccer’ is not the most popular sport in America, but perhaps the influx of travelling fans and some of the exciting games we have already seen may convince some to start following football more closely.

But for now, at least, it seems that large parts of the world will continue to call it by its more traditional name, ‘football’.
