Piers Morgan believes Cristiano Ronaldo has cemented his legacy after potentially playing his final game with Portugal at the FIFA World Cup.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s final attempt to win the FIFA World Cup came to a screeching halt, as Spain defeated Portugal in the Round of 16.

Ahead of the game, Ronaldo had confirmed this would be his final World Cup appearance, with speculation that it could also mark the end of his time with the Portuguese National Team.

Piers Morgan says Cristiano Ronaldo made his country ‘proud’ after Round of 16 exit

Taking to X earlier today, British journalist Piers Morgan shared a message of support and encouragement for Cristiano Ronaldo.

He rattled off statistics from Ronaldo’s career, including his claim to being the only player to score in six World Cup tournaments, before telling him he’s done his country proud.

“If this was Ronaldo’s last game for Portugal, he leaves having played most international games in history (233), scored most international goals (146), and become the only man to score in SIX different World Cups. Congrats, Cristiano, you’ve done your country & family so proud.”

Ronaldo and Morgan share a friendship, with the Briton being CR7’s most trusted voice in the media, often turning to him for high-profile interviews.

While Morgan previously considered Lionel Messi the better player, his allegiance shifted to Ronaldo when their working relationship began.

Cristiano Ronaldo will be considered Portugal’s greatest ever player

Despite a disappointing outing in the last two FIFA World Cups, there is no denying the legacy and impact Cristiano Ronaldo has left on the game.

Not only is he one of the most decorated players and prolific goalscorers of his generation, he also helped bring Portugal success on the international stage.

Having played a part in Portugal’s Euro 2016 win and their two UEFA Nations League victories, Ronaldo helped usher in a period of unprecedented success for the team.

And while he hasn’t come close to the success his rival, Lionel Messi, has at the World Cup stage, he has left a huge mark on the sport.
