Speaking on his YouTube channel, Rio Ferdinand has been discussing Thiago Alcantara amid his brilliant run of form for Liverpool.
The defender was full of praise for the Spaniard, and he actually dropped a bit of a bombshell about the midfielder.
Indeed, according to Ferdinand, Thiago actually wanted to join Manchester United a few years ago – in fact, the centre-back claims that he spoke to Thiago personally about joining the Red Devils.
What’s been said?
Ferdinand spoke about Thiago.
“Going back to football. Thiago has been the standout midfielder for the last couple of months. Look at his stats, his pass accuracy in his last two games. 98.4% against Everton, 95.6% against United. That is ridiculous,” Ferdinand said.
The pundit then shared details of the conversation he had with Thiago a few years ago.
“I spoke to him. He spoke perfect English, a great guy, he wanted to come to United. I wanted to speak about Thiago. A huge amount of the fanbase last season would have said he wasn’t good enough, he wasn’t right for this league. Players need time.”

Regret
Manchester United must have so much regret about not signing Thiago, especially now that he’s shining in the Premier League.
The Red Devils’ midfield has been a problem for years at this point, and, with all due respect, Thiago is leagues ahead of any midfielder Manchester United have, and he’s probably better than any midfielder United could go out and buy right now.
To rub salt in the wound, Thiago has ended up playing for one of United’s biggest rivals, and he could be about to lead Liverpool to a truly historic quadruple that would cement Liverpool’s status as the most successful English team in football history.
Who knows where United would be now if they’d signed Thiago?
