Gary Lineker has taken to Twitter to heap praise on Thiago Alcântara, after he shone for Liverpool in their 4-0 demolition of Manchester United.

What’s the story?

Well, the 31-year-old was absolutely phenomenal against the Red Devils at Anfield last night, as Liverpool went top of the Premier League.

Thiago even earned a standing ovation from the Anfield faithful after being withdrawn by Jürgen Klopp in the 80th minute.

Lineker felt the Spain international was “superb” against Manchester United, and specifically pinpointed his disguised passes as one thing he enjoys watching.

You can see the BBC Match of the Day host’s tweet in full below.

If anything, Lineker’s praise is an understatement.

There have been few performances at Anfield like the one we saw from Thiago last night, in which he was involved in absolutely everything.

For just £20m, Liverpool somehow managed to secure one of the greatest midfielders in Europe across the last decade.

As WhoScored shows, the former Barcelona maestro made the Reds tick on Merseyside last night.

Liverpool’s No.6 finished the game with a passing accuracy of 95.6%, which was better than anyone else on the pitch.

Impressively, that came despite the fact Thiago made 113 passes, so nearly every single one accurately found a teammate.

The Spaniard also completed six out of six attempted long-range passes, embarked on three successful dribbles, and also made three tackles.

It was a display which oozed class, and with someone like Thiago in midfield, there’s no reason why Liverpool can’t win the quadruple.
