Tottenham fans were left surprised that the club could be willing to sell Matt Doherty this summer.
It has been suggested by talkSPORT that Doherty, along with Eric Dier, could be made ‘surplus to requirements’ at Tottenham.
Only 12 months ago, Spurs were bringing Doherty’s talents to North London for a fee of £15 million (Guardian) after he left Wolves.
And now the Irishman could already be heading for the North London exit door.
It’s fair to say that this rumour has left the Spurs faithful stunned because they cannot understand why they would sell Doherty.
Doherty was purchased by Spurs for his performances in Wolves colours and it was Nuno who unleashed his forward-thinking talents from right-back.
Therefore, it would be illogical for him to leave upon Nuno’s arrival, unless the club know that someone is willing to put serious money on the table for his talents.
Even with what Nuno already has at his disposal at right-back – Doherty himself and Serge Aurier – fresh options are needed in that area because it has been a major problem for a number of years.
It’s going to be interesting where this one heads during these coming weeks because Spurs are set for a crazy final six weeks in the transfer market.
