Matt Doherty could be made ‘surplus to requirements’ at Tottenham, journalist Alex Crook has claimed.
The English journalist told talkSPORT on Wednesday afternoon that the Tottenham defender, along with Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez, could also be ‘surplus to requirements’.
Spurs signed Doherty last summer from Wolves after years of success under Nuno Espirito Santo at Molineux, who is now his manager in North London.
Even though it was Nuno who got the best out of Doherty, this is what Crook had to say about Tottenham’s potential ‘surprise’ call on their attack-minded fullback.
“There will be more departures from North London this summer,” said Crook. “And maybe some surprising names on this list.
“We know that they are open to offers on Davinson Sanchez. And I am told this morning that Eric Dier and Matt Doherty could also be surplus to requirements.
“Maybe that’s a bit of a surprise in the case of Doherty because he performed so admirably under Nuno at Wolves.”

Tottenham possibly parting ways with Dier is understandable because his performances haven’t exactly lit up North London in recent years.
But possibly allowing Doherty to leave, especially after Nuno’s arrival, would be pretty illogical from those in the Spurs boardroom.
If that is the case then money has to be the motivation here and a case of Spurs needing the cash because surely Nuno cannot allow this possible departure.
Even with Doherty on board, Spurs need another right-back because Serge Aurier has made his feelings clear about his future, so keeping their flying Irishman on board is a must ahead of the new Premier League season.
