A fresh update before Tottenham Hotspur face Chelsea has surfaced in the Times which mentions that the club are in the market to sign a long-term successor to Son Heung-min in the summer, who has been a shadow of his former self this season.
While the £22 million (Guardian) man scored in vintage fashion against West Ham United by making a smart run in behind on Sunday, there are reasons for Antonio Conte’s men to be worried about his form this campaign. While his goal and assist numbers are a matter of concern, the bigger worry is how underwhelming the 30-yer-old’s all-round displays have been.
And now, it seems as if Tottenham are already planning for the future by assessing the market to bring in a replacement for Son Heung-min in the summer, as revealed before their much-awaited contest against Chelsea.
Tottenham looking to replace Son
Even Jamie O’Hara recently questioned what had happened to the Spurs legend’s form, branding him as ‘awful’ throughout this season.
It seems as if Tottenham agree, as they are scouring the options available even before next season begins to have a replacement for Son Heung-min lined up in the summer with ease, who is expected to start against Chelsea.

Many initially believed that Arnaut Danjuma was always the answer but it’s easy to forget amidst the excitement around his arrival that he has only signed on a loan basis until the end of the season.
In our view: Spurs are doing the right thing
There is no disputing the fact that Son Heung-min, once called ‘fantastic’ by Rio Ferdinand is a Tottenham legend and deserves a chance to prove himself until the summer to showcase where he truly stands, especially in big games against teams like Chelsea.
But the South Korean international is not getting any winger and with his ability to beat defenders seeming virtually non-existent and him barely getting into goalscoring positions like in the past before, his time in the sun may well be dwindling upon him, which is why the club cannot be faulted for drawing up a succession plan to be safe.
