Tottenham Hotspur are interested in sealing a transfer for Brighton & Hove Albion forward Leandro Trossard. But the Belgian is more likely to join either Chelsea or Newcastle United.

That is according to Dean Jones, who reports the Blues and Toon will rival any swoop Spurs look to make. Stamford Bridge and St James’ Park are also more likely to be his destination should the Seagulls star seek to make a move away from the Amex Stadium anytime soon.

Chelsea and Newcastle have shown a greater degree of interest in Trossard’s transfer from Brighton than Tottenham have so far. The west London and North East natives also have a greater pulling power to land Trossard in the current window than the north London team.

Tottenham hold a ‘genuine’ interest in Trossard’s transfer from Brighton

Tottenham do hold a ‘genuine’ interest in securing Trossard’s transfer from Brighton, Alex Crook reports. 90min also claims Spurs have approached the Seagulls to sound out the 28-year-old’s availability in January. They even asked to be kept informed of any new updates.

But Newcastle have been a firm contender in the race to sign Trossard if Brighton allow his transfer. TEAMtalk notes the Magpies’ sporting director Dan Ashworth is desperate to raid his former team for the winger. He only left the Amex to take charge at St James’ last year.

Earlier reports by 90min also noted that Newcastle could table a bid for Trossard’s transfer from Brighton this month. The Seagulls failed to dash the Toon’s hopes after triggering the 12-month option in the forward’s contract, which was otherwise due to lapse this summer.

Trossard has not signed new terms since heading to the south coast of England from KRC Genk in June 2019. Brighton afforded him a four-year deal upon joining the club for £15m under Graham Potter. Trossard went on to get the first of his 24 caps for Belgium in 2020.

He has also scored 25 and assisted 14 goals over 121 appearances in all competitions with the Seagulls. Trossard – called ‘fantastic’ by ex-Newcastle star Jose Enrique, who suggests he ‘will be a top signing for Tottenham’ – has hit home seven and created three this term.
