Mauricio Pochettino was one of a number of managers trying to sign Leandro Trossard from Genk in the summer of 2018 while Tottenham manager – but it might be Antonio Conte that gets a deal over the line for the Belgian winger.
Trossard, 28, is in magnificent form for Brighton. He has 10 goals and assists in 16 Premier League appearances for Roberto De Zerbi’s side this season. Such form saw him earn a place in Roberto Martinez’s Belgium World Cup squad.
Now, currently out of contract – but with Brighton boasting a 12-month extension clause – Spurs are interested. The Mail report that Spurs could look to sign Trossard this month. But it all depends on Brighton’s extending his contract.
Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge states that even if Brighton do extend Trossard’s stay, it will not end interest from Conte’s Spurs. They will just have to pay a bigger fee. But it is not the first time Spurs have wanted to sign the star.

Indeed, The Sun reported back in 2018 – while Pochettino was about to embark on a season which saw Spurs reach the Champions League final – Spurs wanted to sign Trossard. But they failed to get him – and he joined Brighton in 2019.
Pochettino tried to sign Trossard: It might be Conte that gets winger
Spurs need a player like Trossard. Lucas Moura is expected to leave in the summer when his contract expires. Deki Kulusevski and Richarlison have both spent time on the sidelines with injuries. Son Heung-min’s form has dropped off.
Bryan Gil came into the side of late and was excellent in a 4-0 win over Crystal Palace. But Spurs need another body in the final third and the chance to get Trossard for a cut-price fee this month is a move that makes utter sense.
